Chris Jericho is on board with All Elite Wrestling for at least three years and Kenny Omega is expected to sign once his deal with New Japan Pro Wrestling expires at the end of this month but both of them almost ended up going to Impact Wrestling.
It was reported in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter that Don Callis was very close to making deals with both of them until AEW stepped in with a better offer.
Jericho previously said on his podcast that he considered working with Impact before and it’s no surprise that he and Omega would have considered working there because they are both close with Callis.
Jericho’s deal with AEW will allow him to continue working with New Japan. There’s no word on what the future holds for a possible working relationship between AEW and NJPW but Omega would welcome that because he loves working in Japan.
Dave Meltzer noted that if Jericho had decided not to continue working with New Japan, then WWE would have been his likely destination. Jericho noted on his podcast that there were talks as late as December and he let Vince McMahon know that he was going to sign with AEW.
