It turns out that big Hollywood studios didn’t buy into “Fighting With My Family” and those in charge of getting the film done found it difficult to get picked up.
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson produced the movie alongside Dany Garcia and his Seven Bucks Productions company in association with WWE Films. The movie is set to be made available in New York and Los Angeles this week. The film is slated to be in theaters around the country on February 22.
The Rock recently spoke with The Hollywood Reporter where he noted that several studios passed on the movie because of the stigma that pro wrestling still carries.
“We wanted a studio to buy into it, and no one did,” Rock said. “We got passed on everywhere. It was a small British comedy about a crazy wrestling family that wasn’t famous.”
Garcia added, “Wrestling is the conduit for Paige’s journey, and that has a certain stigma.”
