In the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, there’s an update on the situation with WWE talent contracts expiring soon.
Dave Meltzer reported that several talents with contracts coming up soon were asked to sign new long-term deals after Dean Ambrose told the company that he was not going to renew his deal.
WWE really wants to squash the talk of people wanting to leave and they have promised to put a major focus on the tag team division. One source told me that WWE management has told people to give them three months to show that they really mean what they say. Meltzer also noted that they’ve started to give pushes to unhappy wrestlers and they say pay will increase due to the money from Saudi Arabia and the TV contracts that kick in this fall.
The Usos are two of the key talents that have contracts coming up in April and they certainly would have interest from AEW. WWE is working hard to keep them from leaving. The Usos situation is interesting because they patterned some of their style after the Young Bucks with the barrage of superkicks in their matches.
We’ll see how things play out in April.
