The Rock explains why he didn’t host this year’s Oscars

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has opened up on the reason that he didn’t host this year’s Oscars.

While on his official Twitter account, he saw a tweet that caught his eye and responded to it by stating that he’s filming Jumanji 2, which didn’t allow for their schedules to lineup. Thus, the reason he won’t host the award ceremony.

Rock wrote the following, “Ah mahalo dude, I was their first choice to host this year, and my goal was to make it the most fun and entertaining Oscars ever. We all tried hard, but couldn’t make it work since I’m shooting Jumanji. Academy and I were super bummed but maybe one day down the road.”

The former WWE Champion is promoting a film based on Paige’s family in pro wrestling that is titled, Fighting with My Family, which was produced by his Seven Bucks Productions company.

The film premiered at the Sundance Film Festival last week and got good reviews, which is great considering that the entire production budget for the movie would barely cover the catering bill for a typical studio movie.

It was noted in an article by the Hollywood Reporter that it was shot for around $11 million and later sold to MGM for $17 million in 2017. The film will open nationwide on Friday, February 22.
