In his latest out of character interview with pastor Ed Young, The Undertaker talked about his wrestling career. He told the story about how he got the job with WWE in 1990.
Taker was wrestling as “Mean” Mark Callous in WCW but ended up quitting after they told him that fans would not pay to see him wrestle.
“I eventually get a meeting with Vince,” Taker said. “At the end of the meeting he goes ‘well, we really don’t have anything right now. maybe at the first of the year after WrestleMania, we might have an opening.'”
“So anyway, I’m hanging out trying to get bookings when I can and all of a sudden they start this promotion where they got this giant egg on one of the stages. At that point, I had short hair and I started growing my hair and I start having this whole drama in this head like ‘oh man, I’m gonna be Eggman or something like that and he’s gonna want me to shave my head and my eyebrows. I was just in a panic [but] this had nothing to do with me.”
Taker says he got a call from Vince McMahon and he asks for “The Undertaker.” That is when he first learned what his character would be.
Taker joked that McMahon already had the character in his head and he just needed someone big with no personality.
