WWE is going to open tonight’s Monday Night Raw with a big match.
As first reported by Raj Giri at Wrestling Inc., the Mixed Tag Team Match featuring Seth Rollins and Becky Lynch vs. Andrade and Zelina Vega is currently scheduled to kick off Monday Night Raw. This would be the second week in a row that the show would be starting with a match instead of a long talking segment. It’s also a sign of a change in direction by Paul Heyman wanting to focus more on in-ring action.
Giri also notes that Alexa Bliss is not backstage at the show because of an illness but she’s expected to be fine in time for Sunday’s Extreme Rules pay-per-view. The Street Profits, Mike and Maria Kanellis are also backstage. I should note that the Street Profits are still considered NXT wrestlers for now so their Raw appearances are not considered an official “call-up” as of yet. The reason why they were brought up is that WWE is trying to appeal to the younger fans. As noted last week, Vince McMahon realizes that the product has been out of touch with the teenage fans.
There’s also a very interesting name backstage. It could potentially be a big spoiler if this person appears so I won’t say who it is but you can click here if you want to find out who is backstage.
Tonight’s show will also feature the return of Rey Mysterio, the go-home hype for Extreme Rules and a big tag team match featuring Roman Reigns and a mystery partner against Shane McMahon and Drew McIntyre. The stipulation is that McMahon will choose the mystery partner and The Undertaker cannot get involved in the match. If he does get involved then he will be out of the match on Sunday at Extreme Rules.
