If things go according to plan, there will be less of the silly stuff done during wrestling matches when they need to go to commercial.
As noted in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, there is a movement right now to stop the silly stuff being done to create a reason to stop matches so they can go to commercial breaks. As noted several weeks ago, Vince McMahon decided that much like real sports, there shouldn’t be commercials during the action. There’s been a couple of times when they’ve broken that rule but, for the most part, they’ve been doing things to create breaks (2-out-of-3 fall matches, for example).
Last Monday on Raw, there were 2 commercial breaks during the long women’s match that aired in the third hour and they literally stopped the match for three minutes for a break.
The Raw Reunion show on Monday is going to be interesting because they will have to be super creative with their commercial breaks with so many returning legends booked for the show. Also, in theory, they should have a big angle on that show with current talent since they should have more people than usual watching and the idea should be to give them a reason to tune in for the following week when the legends are not there.
It seems like Paul Heyman’s changes to the show will take time but the good news is that ratings are starting to go up so that may give him leverage to get more ideas approved by Vince McMahon.
