WWE Hall of Famer Kurt Angle was recently interviewed by Collider Live where he spoke about a wide range of pro-wrestling-related topics.
During the interview, he spoke about his retirement match. As seen at the WrestleMania 35 pay-per-view event in East Rutherford, NJ at MetLife Stadium on the WWE Network, Angle lost to Baron Corbin in his farewell match.
This is where Angle brought up how he originally told WWE Chairman and CEO Vince McMahon that he wanted to face John Cena at the event. Obviously, that didn’t happen.
Angle reflected on how it was his idea to retire at Mania as he felt like he was slowing down in the ring and not the same guy he was when he was younger, which is understandable.
“When I asked to retire at last WrestleMania, I threw Cena out at Vince and Vince said ‘Listen you have a program that you’ve been doing for a year. I’m not throwing it away, it’s with Baron Corbin. So whether you want to retire here or whenever, you’re going to wrestle Baron at WrestleMania.’ I said ‘You know what that’s fair.'”
