The first AEW Women’s Champion will be crowned on their first show on TNT on October 2nd.
The news was confirmed by Brandi Rhodes via Sports Illustrated.
“For many female wrestlers, the opportunity to fight for the title represents the crowning achievement of their careers,” Rhodes told SI.com. “The AEW women’s championship will be the cornerstone of the women’s division.”
She also noted that the title will be treated with respect and prestige and she hopes that the title will inspire future female wrestlers.
More details on plans to crown a new champion, including a list of competitors, will be revealed next Wednesday at 8 pm eastern during “The Road to AEW All Out” show on their YouTube account.
