The Rock’s ‘Hobbs & Shaw’ draws big numbers at the box office

Universal Pictures “Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Show” did very well at the box office this weekend.

The movie brought in $60 million domestically and $120 at the international box office. This is in line with the movie studio projections and it’s obviously a huge success for the film starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. This film had the 3rd best opening in the history of the franchise. The numbers are more impressive because sequels generally don’t draw as well as the original franchise.

The film had the fifth largest worldwide opening in the history of Universal Studios. It was also number 1 in 52 of 63 countries.

In a way, this is very good news for All Elite Wrestling. They ran ads before the movie started in AMC theaters around the country. The ads hyped AEW’s show on TNT on October 2nd. If TNT is going to continue to spend to get AEW in front of current and lapsed wrestling fans, then this should be seen as a very good sign for AEW. It remains to be seen if AEW can draw numbers similar to Raw or SmackDown but they do have a fighting chance one day if TNT continues to promote them like they have been so far.

The Rock recently said in an interview that he has “quietly retired” from pro wrestling. Click here for more on why he decided to retire.
