The war between WWE and AEW will heat up in the next few months.
The news about the talks between WWE and Fox Sports about NXT programming have been making the rounds for months but now it looks like a deal has been reached and it would mean that a live NXT show will go head-to-head with AEW every Wednesday night.
Dave Meltzer reported this week that although it hasn’t been announced, NXT on FS1 is tentatively set for 8-10 pm on Wednesday nights and the show would be live every week. It had been expected that this would be the timeslot but it wasn’t confirmed until this week. The feeling is that they have to do a live show because a taped show would not do as well against AEW.
However, it’s not clear when the start date will be because FS1 also carries Big East Basketball on Wednesdays so there will be some preemptions and it could mean that they would delay the premiere episode by a few weeks or months, which means that AEW will go unopposed for a while.
WWE feels they have the advantage in the war against AEW because they can use main roster talent on the NXT show to boost ratings.
It is not known yet if they will continue doing shows at Full Sail University or if they plan on doing the show at different cities. What is known is that the NXT to FS1 deal was largely agreed to in late June or early July.
