It looks like the son of Rey Mysterio will become a WWE Superstar but it won’t happen this year.
As noted in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE wants Dominick Gutierrez to wrestle and his father may play a part in launching his in-ring career with the company.
However, the feeling right now is that he’s not ready for in-ring stuff but WWE is hoping that he’ll be ready by sometime in 2020.
Meanwhile, Mysterio has the option to opt-out of his contract in a few months. If WWE decides to sign his son full-time then I would think that Mysterio would want to stay so he could work with his son.
If Mysterio signs a new deal then he would be another big name taken off the table as an option for All Elite Wrestling. The folks at AEW love him and would probably book him better creatively but WWE might offer a better package deal for him and his son.
We’ll see how all of this plays out in the next few months.
