WWE has announced several names for the 20th anniversary of SmackDown, which is also the first SmackDown show on FOX.
As announced earlier this week, names scheduled to appear on the show include Brock Lesnar, Kurt Angle, Lita, Mick Foley, Booker T, Hulk Hogan, Trish Stratus, Jerry Lawler, Goldberg, Mark Henry, Sting and Ric Flair.
A few of those names appeared at Raw Reunion but the reunion show was not Vince McMahon’s idea. The idea was to do a reunion show on the first SmackDown on FOX but WWE had to do the Raw Reunion special because it was an idea pitched by the USA Network.
Dave Meltzer noted again in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that everyone wants Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson to appear on the first SmackDown On FOX. Obviously, it would be great to have him because he’s one of the biggest names in WWE history but also because he is the one who came up with the “SmackDown” name.
It all comes down to his schedule and Dave Meltzer says that the last word on him was that WWE reached out to him a while back but he has not committed to being there yet.
That was the latest on his status as of weeks ago and that may have changed. I would guess that we’ll see The Rock on the show in some form. If not in the arena, then I can see them doing a “via satellite” interview or something.
The first SmackDown on FOX will air live from 8-10 pm from the STAPLES Center in Los Angeles, CA.
