A new report has shed some light as to why Robert Roode was paired with Dolph Ziggler on WWE television.
As seen on this week’s episode of Monday Night Raw in New Orleans, Louisiana at the Smoothie King Center on the USA Network, Ziggler and Roode won “the biggest Tag Team Turmoil match in WWE history.”
Dave Meltzer reported in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that new team was apparently the idea of Raw Executive Director Paul Heyman with the plan for their win on Raw was meant to be somewhat of a showcase to get Roode over.
This comes after he was slotted as a nobody on the roster for so long after his run as United States Champion.
Ziggler and Roode have earned the right to challenge Rollins and Strowman for the WWE Raw Tag Team Titles at Clash of Champions.
There’s no word yet on what WWE has planned for Roode and Ziggler but the storyline of Rollins and Strowman being tag team champions was to help build their Universal Title match.
WWE holds the Clash of Champions pay-per-view event on Sunday, September 15, 2019 in Charlotte, North Carolina at the Spectrum Center and will air on the WWE Network.
