Kota Ibushi diagnosed with Mallory-Weiss Syndrome

The latest update on Kota Ibushi has surfaced online. At first, the belief was that Ibushi was pulled from NJPW events with the flu.

It was noted by Dave Meltzer on Monday’s edition of Wrestling Observer Radio that Ibushi is suffering from Mallory-Weiss Syndrome. It’s an issue when there is a tear in the mucous membrane where the esophagus meets the stomach.

This syndrome is caused by trauma to the chest or stomach, violent vomiting due to food poisoning, or heavy lifting.

As a result, he will not work the remainder of the current NJPW tour in the United States.

The good news is that it’s not a long-term issue but it is rare for a male under 40 to suffer from it. Typically, these types of tears will heal within ten days. For more serious Mallory-Weiss tears, surgery is sometimes required.

The NJPW star is expected to make a full recovery and still scheduled for the Road To The New Beginning show where he’s slated to take part in an eight-man tag team match on February 9th in Osaka.
