Jeff Cobb has been brought into AEW but with him still being advertised for ROH shows, some fans have wondered where things stand with his status in both promotions.
As noted, Cobb is slated to make his AEW in-ring debut next week in Atlanta, Georgia in a match against Jon Moxley. On Wednesday’s show after the main event of Moxley vs. Santana, the Inner Circle attacked Moxley before bringing out Cobb for him to lay out Moxley with his finisher.
Pwinsider.com first reported that Cobb is not currently signed to an AEW contract. Dave Meltzer shared some additional details about his status on the latest episode of Wrestling Observer Radio.
Meltzer noted that Cobb was brought in for this angle and match. While Cody Rhodes wants him to be full-time in the company, Cobb is focused on working as a free agent for ROH and AEW as well as wanting to wrestle in NJPW and PWG.
Thus, the reason that Cobb is advertised for the ROH SuperCard of Honor show on WrestleMania weekend.
AEW is billing Cobb as a “hired gun” or a “bounty hunter mercenary” type. This plays into his status with the promotion. Whether he signs a full-time deal with AEW after this short stint remains to be seen.
