Cody Rhodes on moonsault spot in steel cage match: “Tony Khan was adamant that I didn’t do it”

Cody Rhodes recently did an interview with Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated where he spoke about a wide range of topics.

During the interview, Rhodes discussed his steel cage match against Wardlow on last week’s AEW Dynamite episode on TNT. This match was done for Rhodes to complete the final stipulation set out by MJF.

With this victory, Rhodes will face his rival at the AEW Revolution pay-per-view on Saturday, March 29. Near the finish of the match, Rhodes hit a moonsault off the top of the cage onto Wardlow.

It turns out that Tony Khan was among people backstage at the show who were trying to talk Rhodes out of doing the spot.

“The cage has to be lowered, that was my rule,” said Rhodes. “So I ended up with the highest cage I could possibly get, and that cost me. I’m terrified of heights. That’s why my eyes are closed.

“I thought about it all day. Tony Khan was adamant that I didn’t do it. I’ve never seen a boss like him and how he leads, and the way he cares about his investments. Too many people were trying to talk me out of it. Typically, I’m by the ‘Go position’ during our show, but I stayed away.”
