WWE offers to move Matt Hardy to NXT?

Matt Hardy is just a few days away from becoming a free agent and on March 1st he will be able to negotiate with any wrestling company in the world.

However, WWE has made another enticing offer to get him to stay with the company. As previously noted, Hardy and WWE are not far on money terms but his issue has more to do with the creative direction of his character and he realizes that his next wrestling contract may be his last as an active wrestler.

PWInsider is reporting that WWE has made several attempts in the last few months to get Hardy to sign a new deal and the latest talk backstage is that he could work in the NXT system somehow. PWInsider’s Mike Johnson said that his “gut feeling” is that Hardy will probably stay with WWE but nothing is for sure and things can go either way.

Hardy’s body can’t take the rigors of a full-time schedule and the style in New Japan Pro Wrestling is not suited for him so NXT or AEW would probably work out best for him. Impact Wrestling and ROH would likely show interest in him but they are less likely to offer the type of money being offered by AEW and WWE.

Hardy’s name has been heavily rumored to be the leader of AEW’s Dark Order but they may have to find someone else for the role if WWE signs him to a new deal.

In a recent Tweet, Hardy addressed the speculation surrounding his upcoming free agent status and noted that nothing is written in stone, perhaps alluding to the fact that he has not agreed to terms with any company yet.

He ended by addressing the NXT rumors in his own way by saying, “Then what’s NeXT?”
