Rey Mysterio is no longer under WWE contract

WWE Raw Superstar Rey Mysterio is currently not under contract as his deal has expired.

Dave Meltzer confirmed today that Mysterio is still working with WWE but he has not signed a new deal and he is not under contract at the moment. Mysterio is involved in one of the top storylines with his son Dominik and Seth Rollins.

It was reported in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that Mysterio and Dominik were scheduled to be at Raw last Monday but plans changed and they were shown via a taped appearance from their home.

Meltzer is also reporting that Mysterio vs. Rollins will be titled an “Eye for an Eye” match with the stipulation being that you can only win by taking out your opponent’s eye. The match is scheduled for The Horror Show at Extreme Rules on July 19 but it has not been announced yet by WWE.

Several weeks ago, the word within WWE was that Mysterio was expected to sign with the company. Apparently, that is not a lock since he has yet to sign a new deal. His previous deal was signed in September 2018 for 2 years. There was a clause that would allow Mysterio to opt-out after 18 months so that looks to be the case here.

Prior to signing with WWE in 2018, Mysterio wrestled at the All Out pay-per-view. Now with news out that he is not under WWE contract, it will be interesting to see if All Elite Wrestling decides to make an offer.
