AEW’s Dasha Gonzalez says WWE told her to tone down her personality and was never told why she was released

All Elite Wrestling broadcaster/ring announcer Dasha Gonzalez is the guest this week on Chris Jericho’s “Talk Is Jericho” podcast.

Gonzalez was on the show to talk about her ring announcing, her aspirations to be a pro wrestler and why wrestling didn’t work out, her WWE tryout, overzealous fans, how she got the spot on The Rock’s “Titan Games,” how she ended up with AEW and much more.

Here are some highlights on what she said about her time in WWE:

Dasha Gonzalez talked about WWE telling her to show no emotion as a backstage interviewer: “I was always told I had too much personality and I had to dial it down. I was told it is not about the interviewer it’s about the person being interviewed. I had a lot of conflict because I had a lot of personality and I felt my personality could put over what the talent was saying but they said, it is not about you, it is about the talent. The light was shined on the talent so you had to ask your question, don’t show facial expression and let their answers make the viewer have a certain sentiment or feeling. I wasn’t allowed to nod. I felt I had to get the question exactly verbatim how it was written or the world was going to end. Interviewing wasn’t my thing I guess.”

Dasha said she was not given a reason for being let go by WWE: “I got a phone call and they said we are letting you go and I didn’t get any answers. It was after WrestleMania. I was out of work for six months. There are always ups and downs in the company. I didn’t take it personally. Some doors close for greater ones to open. You stop to think, what did I do? But at the end of the day, I gave it 110% everyday for 5 years. I worked my tail off for them, but I don’t take it personally. It is what it is. It’s the nature of the beast. If you’re not a chosen one, then, that’s how it is. I was down for a little bit. But, I’m such an optimist, that I’m not going to let that stop me. I’m the little engine that could.”
