Early news on rumored matches for WWE SummerSlam

There are some noted in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter about SummerSlam.

As previously noted, WWE had hoped that SummerSlam would be their first major show with fans. They also had tentative dates for late July for Raw and SmackDown tapings with fans in Lakeland, Florida but those plans have been canceled and WWE will continue to run shows at the Performance Center for now. SummerSlam is also now scheduled for the Performance Center.

The Observer lists the following matches as rumored matches for SummerSlam:

AJ Styles (Champion) vs Matt Riddle for the WWE Intercontinental Championship. Riddle vs. King Corbin is also possible since they have also been pushing that feud on TV.

New Day (Champions) vs. Shinsuke Nakamura and Cesaro for the WWE SmackDown Tag Team Championship

Street Profits (CHampions) vs. Andrade and Angel Garza for the WWE Raw Tag Team Championship

A note on the Raw Tag Title match: WWE has already put the wheels in motion for this match but The Street Profits have been off TV for the last couple of weeks so it’s looking more like the match may be on hold until SummerSlam.

Another match that looks likely is the blowoff between Braun Strowman and “The Fiend” Bray Wyatt with the Universal Championship on the line. Wyatt and Strowman will face off in a Wyatt Swamp Fight but the title will not be on the line.

Of course, given the current circumstances, whatever plans are in place right now can change especially if more people test positive for COVID-19 or if travel restrictions force WWE to make substitutions.
