Sonny Kiss is the guest this week on Vickie Guerrero’s “Excuse Me” podcast.
Here are some highlights:
Sonny Kiss talked about wanting to be an NFL Cheerleader: “The NFL Cheerleaders, there is an image thing, so I didn’t get very far. It was kind of obvious. I knew that was going to happen. At the same time, everything happens for a reason. Being a blonde, hair flipping girl, that wasn’t me. I think that played a role for sure, but, I got, not that far, but enough to say I did it and it was enough to garner experience and make some friendships and connections.”
Kiss discussed his time in Lucha Underground: “It was an amazing experience. Much like AEW, it was an amazing crop of talent. Everyone got along so well. It was great chemistry and friendships. It was like a TV series and a professional wrestling show. I thought that was cool. It was cool to also have a moment. Before Lucha Underground, I didn’t have anyone pulling for me. The fact that they gave me a chance before AEW did, before any promotion, it was amazing.”
Kiss talked about AEW: “I felt pressure when I first got signed. Tony wanted an alternative company where it was pushing for uniqueness and different people. Everybody is open to different cultures. At first it was, like, is he going to be scared to take a chance on LGBT+ people? I think once I got comfortable with the fact that, listen, they chose you for a reason. To kind of go for it, I feel like the pressure kind of eased a little bit. You think he may get tired of the hate and the backlash and say, I don’t know if this is a good idea. But, no, proving myself is the best answer to that. I did feel pressure at the beginning, but not so much now. I’m getting better with it.”
