As of this past weekend, Rey Mysterio had yet to sign a new WWE contract but Vince McMahon is working hard to lock him up for a few more years.
PWInsider Elite is reporting that Mysterio met with WWE officials today at the company headquarters in Stamford, CT. It is not known if they were able to come to terms on a new deal.
Mysterio was at the Raw tapings on Monday but he was not used. WWE left the door open for him to resume his storyline with Seth Rollins because they announced that his eye has a chance of making a full recovery. As noted earlier, the finish of the match was edited and plans to show Mysterio’s “eye” popping out of his head were scrapped. Click here for more on Vince McMahon’s decision to edit out part of the match. If Mysterio doesn’t sign then the match at Extreme Rules would have been his last one with the company.
The belief is that Mysterio will end up staying with WWE but the sticking point for him is that he wants a raise and WWE has said that they are not offering raises right now during the pandemic. This is despite the fact that the company will make more money this year than any year in their history due to their TV deals with NBCUniversal and FOX Sports.
Presumably, if Mysterio stays with WWE then it means that his son Dominik will be signed to a deal as well.
