Paul Heyman took Raw vs. SmackDown rivalry seriously

WWE is continuing to push forward in the new era that doesn’t involve Paul Heyman as the Executive Director of Raw.

Of course, WWE Chairman and CEO Vince McMahon decided to shake up the creative for the Raw brand as Heyman was removed as the Executive Director. Bruce Prichard took over the creative lead on both Raw and SmackDown.

Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select reports that Heyman especially was known to take the idea of a Raw vs. Smackdown rivalry seriously. It was noted that he applied it to his work and the mentality of the show.

Heyman was said to have been very proud of the likes of Apollo Crews, Austin Theory, Angel Garza, and many of the stars that he used who weren’t before he took over in the role.

Heyman went to great lengths particularly to get Buddy Murphy on Raw and wanted to build more for the future of Raw.

Since Heyman’s removal, WWE has continued to use Murphy in his role as being paired with Seth Rollins on television. The idea behind the brand extension is to have two separate rosters and writing teams, but Vince McMahon ultimately makes the final decisions on the product for both shows.
