NFL games might air on Friday against WWE SmackDown

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported today on ESPN’s Get Up that the NFL is considering scheduling games on Friday night and Saturday if college football is canceled due to COVID-19 concerns. The NFL games on Saturday would air during the afternoon and evening.

The absence of college football would create more vacancies in the TV schedules and the networks are desperate for live sports programming so if college football is canceled, it’s a strong possibility that we would see NFL games on Friday and Saturday.

Games on Friday night would be a big problem for WWE since they could take a chunk out of the ratings for Friday Night SmackDown. WWE already deals with this every year when Monday Night Football goes up against Monday Night Raw.

With WWE ratings down during the pandemic, the last thing WWE needs is to worry about competition from the NFL. At this point, Schefter is saying the Friday and Saturday NFL games are a possibility and it’s just something being considered by the league. With the NFL season just a few weeks away, we should find out soon if WWE will be impacted.
