WWE NXT joins AEW Dynamite in being preempted by its network because of coverage for a sports league.
Dave Meltzer noted on today’s episode of Wrestling Observer Radio that the September 2nd episode of NXT is expected to be preempted. The USA Network will be airing an NHL Playoff game during NXT’s normal timeslot.
Although not confirmed, the belief is that the episode will air on Tuesday, September 1. This not only means that NXT will air in the old timeslot of SmackDown Live but also means that Dynamite will have an unopposed night of their own.
As of this writing, WWE hasn’t announced any changes for NXT’s upcoming schedule, but with two weeks remaining, it’s likely to happen soon.
Wednesday’s episode of Dynamite was preempted by the NBA Playoffs, which meant that NXT had no competition from the rival promotion. Instead, AEW’s weekly show airs this Saturday at 6 pm ET.
Wednesday’s episode of NXT marked the go-home show for this Saturday’s NXT TakeOver: XXX special, which will be headlined by Karrion Kross vs. Keith Lee for the NXT Title.
