WWE has changed plans for the WrestleMania 37 main event

WWE has changed for the WrestleMania 37 main event.

As it was noted in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the plan at one point was for the show to be headlined by Randy Orton vs. Edge in an I Quit Match.

We noted here on WrestlingNews.co that there was talk of Orton winning the WWE Championship from Drew McIntyre and then he would go on to defend and lose it to Edge either at the Royal Rumble or more likely at Mania. Dave Meltzer noted in the Observer that Orton winning the title is not a lock but it was something under discussion.

Meltzer added that the last word is that there is no longer a 100 percent clear main event direction for Mania.

We were told last week by a WWE source that Vince McMahon did not have the finish locked in for Drew McIntyre and Orton at SummerSlam until late in the week and there was still a chance that Orton would have walked out of that show with the title.

We were told that the current plan is for McIntyre to return sometime after the Payback show to set up the rematch with Orton for Clash of Champions on 9/27.
