AEW Dynamite main event was “massively” cut for time after segments went too long

This week’s episode of AEW Dynamite featured the main event of Matt Hardy vs. Sammy Guevara in a Tables Match.

AEW had been building up to this match for the last few weeks following a hot angle in which Hardy was accidentally busted open thanks to a chair being thrown at his face.

Sean Ross Sapp reported in a Fightful Select article that if fans thought the match was shorter than expected, it was. It was noted that the match, which aired live on TNT from Jacksonville, Florida at Daily’s Place, was “massively” cut for time. By watching the bout, AEW had to go to a commercial break in the middle of the contest.

The reason for the match being cut down in time was due to three segments on the broadcast going heavy on time and the decision was made to shorten it in order to go off the air on time.

The match went for about 7 minutes. There were five matches featured on the card.

The viewership numbers came out on Friday afternoon and AEW did see an increase in total viewership, but a slight decline in the 18-49 demo. Check out the full report here.
