WWE has settlement negotiations extended in legal dispute over Stone Cold trademark with NFL player

WWE has been dealing with a legal dispute with Stone Cold Jones LLC since September and now it’s being extended even longer.

NFL player, Kansas City Chiefs defensive tackle Chris Jones, owns the company. The issue between the two sides is due to a soda line named “Stone Cold Jones Joda” in conjunction with KC Soda being released.

Obviously, WWE owns the trademark rights to “Stone Cold Steve Austin”, and “Stone Cold.” When WWE noticed this soda line, they filed a complaint to oppose Jones’ trademark filing as it indicated the name “Stone Cold” is associated with Austin.

On December 15th, WWE started negotiating a settlement regarding the dispute. The proceedings got suspended for 30 days as a result and the two sides had until January 15th to work something out.

However, Heel By Nature notes after seeing court documents that WWE has requested an extension with the United States Patent and Trademark Office Trademark Trial and Appeal Board.

They did so on January 20th as they wanted another 30 days to continue negotiations. If no settlement is made by February 15th then court proceedings will continue.
