Backstage news on why Vince McMahon fired Lars Sullivan

There’s a lot of speculating going around on social media about Lars Sullivan’s release from WWE.

As noted earlier, Sullivan was quietly released last month and company officials confirmed the news today. This comes after another attempt to push him as a monster. Sullivan was last seen in November in an interview segment on SmackDown. The interview segment covered Sullivan’s early life to explain why he turned into a monster in WWE. It was clear that they were adding layers to his character and he was going to be in the mix as one of the top heels of the brand.

In a post on the Wrestling Observer Forum, Dave Meltzer said that speculation about creative not having anything for Sullivan is not accurate. Meltzer noted that Vince McMahon wanted to push him but he no showed TV.

Something similar happened in 2019 when Sullivan was about to start a feud with the returning John Cena. Sullivan was supposed to attack Cena at the Royal Rumble to set up a WrestleMania match but the feud never got started because Sullivan flew home due to an anxiety attack.
