During last week’s episode of “Oral Sessions with Renee Paquette,” Brandi Rhodes discussed the segment with Jade Cargill and she revealed that she was already pregnant at the time. She also talked about how the segment was pitched and she revealed that she had no idea what Cargill would say during her promo about her husband Cody Rhodes.
Brandi said, “When I found out I was pregnant, we were building to a match. I just had the singles match with Ana Jay and everybody was like, that was a great match. We were supposed to have a tag match with me and Red Velvet against Tay and Anna. We were looking forward to it and we were going to plan some aspects of that match. We were meeting Ricky (Starks) at the Nightmare Factory and it was that morning that I found out that I was pregnant. I thought, well, I just can not go to the Nightmare Factory, but at the same time, I have to stop doing stuff. My doctor even said, ‘You should finish what you’re doing. It’s not going to hurt you.’ I was so miniscule pregnant. Two of my doctors told me it is fine. I could never live with it if something happened so I had to get out of this.
I went to the training and stood around, stretched and walked through things. I didn’t really want to do anything. This match is coming up in a week and I’m thinking, how do I get out of that? I started acting like my knee was hurting. That’s how that promo came about with Jade. I wasn’t going to do anything with that. I hate when I spill over into multiple stories, but it happens a lot because you start something, and then they figure out that the logical person to bring in is Brandi or the logical person is Cody, or the girls will pitch something with me not knowing that I’m already doing something else. I didn’t want to get into two things. That was supposed to happen and end that, and then this new thing was going to happen with Jade and everybody, but I wasn’t supposed to do that promo that night.
Then, I was like, I can’t wrestle, so Tony said, ‘I want you to have an interaction there and have this promo.’ I said, ‘Ok.’ He said, ‘Have you ever seen Curb Your Enthusiasm where Vivica Fox is with Larry and Susie comes up, opens the door, and Susie is always cursing at Larry and acting crazy, and Vivica starts cursing her out and slams the door in her face?’ I said, ‘Of course. I love Curb Your Enthusiasm.’ He’s like, ‘Do that.’ I said, ‘Ok. Can I curse, because that’s what you have to do for that?’ He said, ‘Yea.’ I did it and it was the funnest thing ever. I would love to do that again someday. It was so cathartic.
Also, Jade is a great person to play off of because she had not done anything yet and I was saying to her, ‘Don’t get thrown off by me. I’m going at it at 100 so don’t take anything personally, if you can’t look at me, don’t look at me, whatever you need to do.’ She was perfect, mocking me. She was great. I didn’t know anything she was going to say. I didn’t want to know her promo. I didn’t know what she was going to do with Cody. She comes in the ring. She’s an absolute specimen of a human being. She is touching my husband. She said he has a small d**k. All these things were happening that I didn’t know were going to happen, so I’m getting amped up. Even people backstage in gorilla are going, ‘Holy sh**t Brandi. What are you going to do?’ I knew I was going to cut her a*s up and cut her to the bone. I was so glad she was doing this because it makes it easier for me. I went out there with real anger and real emotion and said a bunch of stuff. They forgot to bleep a lot of it. They were behind because they are not used to me doing that.”
There’s a lot more covered in the interview including how she and Cody first met, how she was supposed to wrestle in WWE, why she became a ring announcer, and more.
