Kurt Angle hasn’t worked for a wrestling promotion since last year.
He had been working as a backstage Producer for WWE after retiring from in-ring action at WrestleMania 35 when he lost to Baron Corbin. He was let go by WWE in 2020 due to budget cuts. The former WWE Champion was later offered a role to be Matt Riddle’s manager on SmackDown, but Angle turned it down.Â
This past May, Angle said in an interview that Shaquille O’Neal texted him to tell him he should go to AEW, but Angle wasn’t interested.
The WWE Hall of Famer recently spoke with Fightful and during the interview, he noted that he was offered a deal to join AEW for a “run.” While Angle was flattered by the offer, he wasn’t considering it “because he’s too beat up physically to compete at the level he once did.”
Also, Angle stated that Impact Wrestling also contacted him about coming in for a “one-shot deal.” Angle said that while he has a soft spot for the promotion due to him working there for so many years, he never seriously considered it.
