Dwane “The Rock” Johnson’s “Jungle Cruise” did very well at the box office this past weekend. Various movie studios also have streaming services, so with the COVID-19 pandemic still impacting daily life such as going out to see a movie, they started rolling out new films in both theaters and on streaming platforms. This movie premiered this way as it’s also on Disney+.
Variety notes the movie brought in $34 million here in the United States, $27.6 million internationally and $30 million on Disney+. Thus, it amounted to $91.6 million in combined revenues.
It was estimated that Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures spent $200 million to produce and at least $100 million more to market it.
The Rock took to Instagram to comment on the opening weekend of the film:

For comparison, the $34 million domestic debut of the film exceeded industry expectations. Other big movies that have both premiered in theaters and services include “Space Jam: A New Legacy” ($31 million), “Godzilla vs. Kong” ($31 million), and “Cruella” ($21 million).
