It was first reported last month that CM Punk could be headed back to wrestling in the near future and was in talks to make a return to the ring.
The original report stated that the likely landing spot for the former WWE Champion was AEW. There have been various teases regarding this possibility by AEW and when they sold out the United Center in Chicago on August 20th, it was widely speculated that this is where he will make his promotional debut despite the fact that there’s been no confirmation that he’s inked a deal with AEW.
Fightful Select reported some behind-the-scenes notes on Punk’s preparation to wrestle again. He has been training on his own in addition to the training for the Starz show “Heels.”
After speaking with some wrestlers and cast members who have worked with him over the past six months, they had very promising things to say about him. One person stated Punk looked “completely healthy,” especially as compared to the final months of his WWE run.
Another person said Punk was very good in the ring and wondered whether he’d been training in private leading up to being in the ring with them. The third person they talked with said Punk was working so well in the ring it was as if he’d never left.
