After years of Vince McMahon pushing Roman Reigns as the future top star of his company, fans agree with that belief thanks to his run that has lasted a year so far.
Reigns went on hiatus for a few months shortly before WrestleMania 36 and came back at last year’s SummerSlam as a heel in addition to being paired with Paul Heyman. That same month, he beat Bray Wyatt at the Payback pay-per-view event to become the WWE Universal Champion.
Since that time, he has retained the title over the likes of Jey Uso, Kevin Owens, Daniel Bryan, Edge, and John Cena.
Reigns won the title on August 30, 2021 and will officially hold the title for a full year on Monday. Since WWE doesn’t hold any SmackDown events on August 30th, Reigns will reach this milestone.
WWE has already confirmed that Reigns will make his next title defense against Finn Balor on next Friday’s episode of SmackDown.
