Former WCW/WWE World Tag Team Champion Rick Steiner was in attendance to watch his son Bron Breakker win the NXT Championship at New Year’s Evil.
After the show, Rick went in the ring and embraced his son. This would be the first time that Rick has been in a WWE ring since the early 90s. Breakker is seen as a future main event on the main roster and this title win is the first big sign that management trusts him to carry the brand. After winning the title, Ciampa gave his nod of approval in a passing of the torch moment.
Breakker noted in an interview that his father was originally supposed to be in the audience for his first match with Ciampa but those plans fell through. There was no sign of Scott Steiner in attendance but this seems to be a positive step towards a re-establishing of the relationship between the Steiner family in WWE as many fans believe that THe Steiner Brothers are long overdue for a WWE Hall Of Fame induction.
