William Regal, who was recently released by WWE, issued the following statement about his run with the company:
“Thank you to @WWE for a wonderful 21 year run. You gave a lad who was happy and in wonderland wrestling on a carnival have a charmed life for 21 years. No complaints and please no one waste time replying as I won’t have a bad work said against the company.x”
Regal’s statement is classy as everyone would expect from him. Regal is considered one of the most knowledgeable people in the business and during his days as a wrestler, he was considered one of the best in-ring workers by his peers. Many independent wrestlers have credited Regal for helping them get their foot in the door with WWE.
The tributes have continued to pour in on social media as there was a lot of shock that the company would release someone as valuable as he is.
There’s no word yet on how long his non-compete is but presumably, he will get offers from several wrestling companies to work behind the scenes and possibly in an on-air role.
In a follow-up tweet, Regal said the following: “I will add that @WWE saved my life in 1999 when they didn’t need to, kept my family fed and took me all around the world. You have my gratitude forever. You allowed me to live a charmed life.”
