It looks like 2 top WWE NXT stars could be moving up to the main roster soon.
Tommaso Ciampa defeated Pete Dunne in a dark match before tonight’s live WWE Friday Night SmackDown broadcast. Dunne and Ciampa are part of the old guard at NXT but Dunne recently signed a new deal. Ciampa seems to have done everything at NXT so a main roster run seems like the next logical move for him. He has previously stated that he can’t do a main roster schedule because his body is banged up. However, with the changes going on behind the scenes it might make sense to move up to Raw or SmackDown on a limited schedule.
Dunne and Ciampa also wrestled at the 12/26 house show in Madison Square Garden. Initial reports stated that their match was added at the last moment because of COVID-19 but WWE sources later confirmed that the match was always in the plans.
Dunne’s last TV match was on the 12/21 episode of NXT 2.0 and he defeated Tony D’Angelo. Ciampa lost the NXT Championship to Bron Breakker this week at New Year’s Evil.
