Thunder Rosa comments on criticism of AEW’s Women’s Division

Thunder Rosa was interviewed on the latest “Throwing Down with Renee and Miesha” podcast to talk about training with Cris Cyborg and what fans can expect from AEW’s Women’s Division in 2022.

Rosa talked about training recently with MMA star Cris Cyborg:

“It’s been a while since I’ve wanted to go train with her, but our timing is never good,” Rosa said. “This time I was in L.A. because I was supposed to have interviews with agents and nothing fell through. She texted me the day before, which was Monday night. She said, ‘Do you want to come to my gym?” I said, ‘Yes.’ I showed up there on Tuesday. I haven’t trained in MMA in over nine months because ever since I got signed (by AEW), I don’t even have time to breathe.”

Rosa was asked if she thinks the AEW Women’s division is getting the respect it deserves:

“Yes and no. I will say that people still talk crap about it. A lot of the women now have been really trying to establish themselves as competitors and somebody that can go with anybody. Even then, I feel like there’s still a lot of criticism towards it. Everybody’s working really hard to make the division better. We’re definitely getting a lot more veterans into our division, so it’s making things a lot easier for a lot of the younger talent to learn from them. That’s the most important part is the willingness and wanting to learn from veterans because we can say, ‘Yeah, we’re really good’, but then when it comes down to throwing the punches and performing, we can underperform too, so we have to be mindful and open on that.”

Rosa said she is working on a short film and an album:

“You’re going to see me in the next couple of months dropping an album. I’m going to start dropping a couple songs that I’m going to be working on in the next couple of months. I haven’t seen the dialogue that I have, but we’re working on a short film for this year so we can submit it to festivals.”
