Jon Moxley’s name was reportedly part of the WWE SmackDown script last week

As noted on Friday, Jon Moxley’s name was referenced during Seth Rollins’ promo on WWE Friday Night SmackDown. Rollins told Reigns that The Usos prop him up just like Mox did in The Shield.

It was an interesting reference because WWE had previously gone out of their way to exclude Moxley as much as possible whenever they’ve shown Shield footage on TV and the only times he has been referenced since his WWE departure, they would call him Dean Ambrose because that is the name WWE owns.

As WrestlingNews.co noted on Friday, the “Mox” line from Rollins had to have been something that was approved by Vince McMahon. Ringside News reported that the line was “100% scripted” and approved for the show.

The “Mox” line does not mean that he will return to WWE at the Royal Rumble, as some have speculated on social media. Dave Meltzer confirmed last week that there will be no AEW wrestlers at the Rumble.

WrestleVotes previously reported that WWE was considering trying to get a big “forbidden door” surprise for the Men’s Rumble match. It’s unclear who (if anyone) they have booked as a surprise but don’t expect Moxley or anyone from AEW to appear.
