Shane McMahon was supposed to be “near the top” of the WrestleMania card, WWE looking for another major attraction match

The situation with Shane McMahon during Royal Rumble weekend threw a big wrench in WWE’s plans for WrestleMania.

As previously noted, Shane McMahon had reportedly pitched matches with Bobby Lashley or Austin Theory but plans were eventually locked in for Shane to wrestle Seth Rollins. At one point, there were plans for Rollins to enter the Royal Rumble match and that would have set up their feud but Vince opted to pull Rollins from the match and have the angle start at a later date.

Because of Shane’s reported behavior, all plans for him were scrapped. WrestleVotes is reporting that Shane was going to be positioned “near the top” of the WrestleMania card and now WWE is looking for a new “major attraction” matchup outside of the title matches. It was also stated that the WrestleMania card is in complete flux.

As of today, the only matches confirmed for WrestleMania are Roman Reigns vs. Brock Lesnar and Charlotte Flair vs. Ronda Rousey. There will likely be some twists and turns on the Reigns vs. Lesnar feud before Mania, which you can read about at this link. Those twists and turns will impact Bobby Lashley’s title run.
