Over the last six months, WWE has been trying to redefine the way they discover new talent as Vince McMahon wants “younger and bigger guys again.”
WWE is looking to move away from signing experienced and older wrestlers. This was the overall idea of NXT 2.0. This is also why they launched their NIL program.
The company will be holding talent tryouts on WrestleMania week in Dallas, Texas. Dave Meltzer reported in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that WWE doesn’t plan to invite more than a few independent wrestlers to the tryouts.
Meltzer wrote, “this week’s doctrine on new talent is more and more wanting to train athletes who are starting from scratch or almost from scratch.” He added, “the idea is very few indie wrestlers, like no more than you can count on one hand, and even less going forward after that.”
Former ROH Women’s World Champion Rok-C was part of the previous talent tryouts in December and the company has reportedly offered her a contract.
