Planned IWGP World Heavyweight Title match for AEW x NJPW: Forbidden Door

AEW x NJPW: Forbidden Door PPV is less than a month away and on Wednesday’s Dynamite the first match was confirmed for it as CM Punk will defend the AEW World Heavyweight Title against Hiroshi Tanahashi.

The rest of the card remains a mystery and because NJPW holds its big Dominion on June 12th, it will stay that way until this show. Dave Meltzer noted on today’s Wrestling Observer Radio that he had seen a potential lineup for the show with two matches listed.

The first being Punk vs. Tanahashi and the other is Adam Page vs. IWGP World Heavyweight Champion Kazuchika Okada. However, AEW won’t announce the second match until after Dominion because Okada defends the title against Jay White at the show.

“The IWGP Title match won’t be able to be announced until the [Dynamite] show on the 15th in St. Louis 11 days before the [Forbidden Door] show. I had seen a lineup which was interesting because it was Punk & Tanahashi for the AEW [World] Title, and the other match was Okada & Adam Page which actually could be a hell of a match for the IWGP [World Heavyweight] Title. I don’t know if that will happen, change, or whatever. Then the rest of the show is probably a lot of tag matches between factions on each side.”
