AEW has dropped a big hint about plans for MJF’s next match

MJF did a memorable worked shoot promo on Wednesday’s AEW Dynamite where he talked about how he has been the one to carry the company on his back and delivers grand slams every time he’s in the ring, but is tired of watching Tony Khan be a mark who hires former WWE stars and pays them more than him.

MJF demanded that Khan fire him and called him a f*cking mark before the audio to his microphone was cut. You can check out the uncensored promo here.

AEW went to a commercial break right after this, but what fans didn’t see on television was CM Punk coming out and running MJF off.

This appears to be the direction that the promotion is headed for MJF as Punk is expected to defend the AEW World Heavyweight Title against Hiroshi Tanahashi at the Forbidden Door PPV later this month. AEW’s next pay-per-view is All Out, likely in Chicago, and while a date has yet to be confirmed, it usually takes place on Labor Day weekend.

The feud between Punk and MJF makes sense as Punk is the biggest former WWE star that is in AEW and the narrative that MJF doesn’t like guys that worked for the rival promotion making more money than him in AEW, would add to his angry towards Punk, who is often praised by Khan for helping AEW’s business continue to grow and is seen as “Khan’s guy.”

Punk and MJF feuded earlier this year which resulted in Punk beating him in a dog collar match at AEW Revolution.
