Roman Reigns will defend the WWE Universal Championship next week on Friday Night SmackDown

Roman Reigns will return next week on WWE Friday Night SmackDown and he will defend the Universal Championship.

Matt Riddle earned the right to challenge Reigns for the title on next week’s show after he defeated Sami Zayn tonight in a Championship Contenders match. Paul Heyman was on commentary during tonight’s main event and he teased that Zayn might join The Bloodline if he was able to beat Riddle.

Riddle won the match tonight with the RKO as Heyman looked on at ringside. Jimmy and Jey Uso attacked Riddle after the match but Riddle fought them off with kendo stick shots.

Riddle vs. Reigns was originally scheduled for the Money In The Bank pay-per-view but plans for that show changed when they moved from Allegiant Stadium to the smaller T-Mobile Arena. Reigns is no longer scheduled for the MITB show.

Also set for next week:
– Happy Corbin vs. Madcap Moss in a “Last Laugh Match”
– Max Dupri will reveal his first client
