Hiroshi Tanahashi advances to finals of AEW Interim World Championship Eliminator Series at Forbidden Door PPV

At Sunday’s NJPW Dominion show, a big AEW Interim World Championship Eliminator Series match took place between Hiroshi Tanahashi and Hirooki Goto.

The back and forth bout saw Tanahashi come out on top. Tanahashi landed a crossbody and a high fly flow to win the match. He will now face AEW’s Jon Moxley in the finals at Forbidden Door to crown the Interim AEW World Heavyweight Champion at the pay-per-view event on June 26th.

As previously noted, AEW needed to crown an interim champion because World Heavyweight Champion CM Punk suffered a foot injury and will be sidelined after getting surgery. AEW originally booked Tanahashi vs. Punk for this show. Here are the results from Dominion:

– IWGP Tag Team Championships: United Empire (Jeff Cobb & Great-O-Khan) def. Bullet Club (Chase Owens & Bad Luck Fale) to win the titles.

– Interim AEW World Title Eliminator: Hiroshi Tanahashi def. Hirooki Goto
