Reason why WWE released NXT star Troy ‘Two Dimes’ Donovan

Troy ‘Two Dimes’ Donovan was let go by WWE on Sunday and at the time it was said the decision to release him was because of a policy issue. It was added that WWE might bring him back next year.

However, at the time, there was no word yet as to what the exact policy was. Dave Meltzer reported in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that he was fired for a failed drug test.

2 Dimes had just worked the first night of the NXT tour in Tampa on June 10th and was told the next day before the Saturday show in Largo by Head of Talent Relations John Laurinaitis “that if everything is clear he should apply for a job to return in about a year.”

In his statement regarding the release, he thanked those who reached out to him and noted a bump in the road doesn’t define him and he’ll be back.

Donovan signed with WWE earlier this year before making his NXT debut in April. He was later aligned with Tony D’Angelo and Channing ‘Stacks’ Lorenzo on the developmental brand.

Because WWE taped this week and next Tuesday’s episodes of NXT 2.0 last Wednesday, his tag team match aired this past Tuesday night.
