Eddie Kingston tried to convince Tony Khan to buy the Knicks: “Then make me the GM right? No?”

AEW’s Eddie Kingston appeared on The Ringer’s MackMania podcast to promote The Forbidden Door pay-per-view and to talk about a bunch of wrestling-related topics.

Kingston talked about how the pandemic changed him:

“I was in the U.K. for a three month tour and the pandemic hit. I had to pay ‘x’ amount of money, more than I had, to get home. I get to Canada and they tell me I can’t go home. I had to take a different flight. I had to stay overnight in Canada. I had to take a different flight and everyone was freaking out and I got dropped off at a different airport that’s three hours away from my home. I had to pay $300 for an Uber to get home. I got home, I sat there, the pandemic started, I’m losing money and I’m selling my wrestling gear. I’m sitting thinking, ‘I’m going to have to move back home with my mother.’”

“One day, a close friend of mine was with me and he told me to focus and stop worrying about outside stuff. I focused and I started maturing because of the pandemic. I’m not fully mature. Trust me. I still laugh at dumb shit and say and do dumb shit. I’m a work in progress.”

“I had to focus. At the time, I was part of NWA, so my focus was to get to Nick Aldis and beat him up for the title. I had a show in New York for ICW and they let me cut a promo. I have therapy sessions, not promos, and I called out Cody Rhodes because I was like, ‘You know what? Why not?’ I got the call to go to AEW and I was ready because I focused. I let the past finally go, even though it still haunts me here and there. I finally let that go, and I finally let go of worrying about others and actually trying to be selfish. It’s ok to be a little selfish when you’re working on yourself.”

Kingston talked about trying to get Tony Khan to buy the New York Knicks:

“Man when I first met Tony Khan and had a meeting with him and then we talked a little bit after I asked him. I said, ‘you ain’t gonna buy the Knicks, man?’ He just looked at me like, no! I said, ‘you sure? you can buy the Knicks and then make me the GM right? No?'”
