WWE has locked down the trademark rights to Jordan Devlin’s new ring name, JD McDonagh, now that he’s returning to NXT.
The company filed for the term on June 20 under the entertainment services classification with The United States Patent and Trademark Office. Here is the description:
“Mark For: JD MCDONAGH trademark registration is intended to cover the categories of entertainment services, namely, wrestling exhibitions and performances by a professional wrestler and entertainer rendered live and through broadcast media including television and radio, and via the internet or commercial online service; providing wrestling news and information via a global computer network; providing information in the fields of sports and entertainment via an online community portal; providing a website in the field of sports entertainment information; fan club services, namely, organizing sporting events in the field of wrestling for wrestling fan club members; organizing social entertainment events for entertainment purposes for wrestling fan club members; providing online newsletters in the fields of sports entertainment; online journals, namely blogs, in the field of sports entertainment.”
Devlin signed with WWE in 2016 and was used for the NXT UK brand for the first few years of his time with the company. At Worlds Collide in 2020, Devlin won a fatal four-way match, defeating Travis Banks, Isaiah Scott, and Angel Garza to become the new NXT Cruiserweight Champion. However, because of the COVID-19 pandemic, he was unable to defend the title so WWE came up with an interim title.
His reign as NXT Cruiserweight Champion that lasted over 400 days came to an end on Night 2 of NXT TakeOver: Stand & Deliver where he lost the title to Santos Escobar. After that event, he was sent back to the NXT UK brand.
