GUNTHER: The Rock is the new Hulk Hogan, I categorize him as a showman as well

In an exclusive for WrestlingNews.co, Steve Fall had another opportunity to interview WWE Intercontinental Champion Gunther ahead of his title defense at Survivor Series against The Miz. Survivor Series takes place on Saturday, November 25 at Chicago’s Allstate Arena and will air live on Peacock in the United States and WWE Network in many international markets.

The interview covered many topics including a possible match with Undisputed Universal Champion Roman Reigns, why Gunther feels that he’s outgrown the IC Title, Hulk Hogan, The Rock, and several other topics.

Gunther’s thoughts on past WWE Intercontinental Champions

Gunther made some comments on WWE’s The Bump about The Ultimate Warrior in regards to Warrior being a “showman” and “not a professional wrestler.” However, Gunther did give the nod to some other past champions such as Razor Ramon, Mr. Perfect (he called him “elite”), and Jeff Jarrett. Gunther said he’s met Jarrett a few times and elaborated more on why he likes him.

“I think he’s one of the smartest guys in the sport because we have 2023 and he’s still in a very good position at another company and I think having a career that long and being in all kinds of positions this business has to offer. Yeah, congratulations to that career. You really figured it out.”

The Rock is the new Hulk Hogan

The Rock recently returned on an episode of Friday Night SmackDown in a segment with Grayson Waller. He’s been all over the media this week doing interviews and some have compared him to Hulk Hogan. Gunther feels that way too and classified him as a showman.

“I think it’s he’s the new Hulk Hogan, I think, in terms of if you ask random people on the street in some random country, they will say The Rock and connect it with wrestling. And most famous, but I categorize him as a showman as well.”

Gunther also discussed the Bash in Berlin PLE that takes place next August and the rumors about a possible PLE in Paris, France. He also had some interesting comments about The Miz and why he (Gunther) wasn’t a fan of WWE when he was growing up. The entire video interview can be seen below.
